Chu Cho Environmental is seeking a GIS Analyst with broad based analytical and data management skills. In this position you’ll work with an impressive and professional team in our growing analytics and mapping department. The GIS Analyst & Data Scientist will play a key role in our team by combining expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with data science techniques. This hybrid position involves spatial data analysis, predictive modelling, and the development of data-driven insights to support environmental research, resource management, and conservation stewardship initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in GIS or data science, with the ability to translate complex datasets into actionable information.
Responsibilities and Skills:
Collect, manage, and analyze spatial data using GIS software to support environmental stewardship and resource development projects.
Create and maintain detailed geospatial databases and perform spatial analysis to identify patterns, trends, and correlations in environmental data.
Develop high-quality maps, reports, and visualizations that communicate complex spatial data in an understandable manner.
Use various programming languages to clean and make sense of large and sometimes complex datasets.
Develop models and other visualizations using that data and or statistical output to assist with decision-making.
Integrate GIS data with other datasets (e.g., remote sensing, IoT) to build comprehensive models and analyses.
Provide technical GIS and data science support to interdisciplinary teams, including terrestrial ecology, fisheries biology, wildlife biology and atmospheric science.
Work well in a team environment and be willing to learn from our experienced professionals.
Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in GIS, data science, and environmental science, and apply this knowledge to improve your output.
Explore new tools, platforms, and methods to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of GIS and data science workflows.
Contribute to the development of new services and solutions that leverage GIS and data science to meet client needs.
Requirements and Qualifications
Technical Diploma, Bachelors or Masters degree in a field related to GIS, data science or environmental science (with emphasis on GIS).
Proven skills in GIS, spatial data management and mapping. Ability to share examples of your work.
Strong programming skills in Python and R.
Expertise with GIS software including QGIS and ArcGIS.
A level of expertise or adeptness with database development and management, particularly spatial databases.
Use of data visualization tools and ability to share examples.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
Familiarity with Office365 platform and the suite of business management tools.
An aptitude for learning software of all types.
Ability to problem solve with a team.
Excellent communication skills both verbally and written.
