Employment Opportunity:
Chu Cho Environmental is seeking an intermediate to senior wildlife biologist to cover a maternity leave for one of our current Senior Biologists and Biology Team Co-Lead based at our Prince George, BC office. In this role you will lead a diverse array of research programs and consulting projects with both field and desktop components, including wildlife species inventory and monitoring, habitat assessment, and spatial data analysis. In addition, you will support our Senior Biologist and Biology Team Co-Lead in team leadership and supervision. The ideal candidate has deep understanding of wildlife and their ecological requirements, strong project management and managerial skills, demonstrated proficiency in acquiring funding, and holds themselves to a high professional standard in their work. Projects our biology team has recently worked on include:
Hoary marmot inventory and habitat assessment in northern BC alpine
Modelling habitat distributions for moose, caribou, and species at risk within a 3.2 million ha area
Traditional ecological knowledge studies on species at risk and culturally-significant wildlife species
Evaluating terrestrial biodiversity within watersheds along a disturbance gradient
Conservation area design and stewardship plan development
Responsibilities:
Lead the development and execution of wildlife biology projects, including both desktop and field-based projects and components.
Work autonomously and in a team to achieve project deliverables on time and on budget.
Collection and management of project data to ensure data accuracy and organization.
Lead technical report preparation to articulate project results.
Contribute to the development of new projects, including researching funding opportunities, background research, project development and grant/proposal preparation.
Support our Senior Biologist and Biology Team Co-Lead in team leadership and provide supervision, mentorship and training to junior staff.
Must uphold Health, Safety and Environmental policies and reporting requirements.
Requirements:
M.Sc. degree in wildlife biology, ecology, or related field plus minimum 5 years relevant experience.
Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in good standing with the College of Applied Biology
Experience in project design, proposal development and fund securement, and project management.
Experience in team leadership and management.
Knowledge and understanding of the wildlife species, habitats, and land use in North-central British Columbia.
Broad range of interests and willingness to work on a variety of projects.
Research background including strong evaluation, synthesis and critical thinking skills.
Ability to analyse large data sets, relating findings to ecosystem processes, and communicate results.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in formal, informal, and technical settings.
Strong field skills and experience.
Physically fit and comfortable conducting field work in remote locations and in all weather conditions.
Comfortable and/or willing to drive on radio-controlled forest service roads for long periods of time.
Strong logistical planning and problem solving skills.
Willing to complete up to 14-day field shifts, and adaptable to changing schedules and requirements.
Ability to work both independently or as part of a team.
Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands.
High level of integrity and work ethic.
BC Class 5 driver’s license.
Preferred Experience:
Experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations or governments.
Proficient in QGIS and/or ArcGIS Pro.
Proficient in R.
Comfortable with wilderness helicopter travel.
Comfortable with backcountry travel and camping.
Knowledge of industrial regulations (e.g., FRPA, Mines Act) as they relate to wildlife and wildlife habitat.

Salary Range:
$90,000 - $120,000
